     This position requires independent analysis skills, excellent communication, and advanced problem-solving skills. Work is performed with little supervision and requires ongoing drive, initiative and judgment. The Sr. Systems Engineer must be able to perform effectively in a challenging, multi-tasking environment while maintaining a high level of patience, interaction, professionalism and service to clients.
This job entails a broad area of duties. As the company continues to grow, some responsibilities will be split into other staff members and positions.
The responsibilities entail:
This job requires Internal IT infrastructure management, design, implementation and consulting. It requires managing APM Systems' Client Services infrastructure which contains several Windows virtual services, databases, remote monitoring and management application, professional services automation, firewalls, and VoIP systems.

It requires managing Client infrastructure and APM Infrastructure and a Service and Infrastructure Management, design, implementation and consulting. This involves CPU, Storage and networking, virtual and physical server provisioning, virtualization management, data and application migrations, software upgrades and delegating those duties applicable to Level 1 and Level 2 staff and managing outcomes and client satisfaction.

Support skills and daily activities involving Network Security Management, advanced network and server monitoring, network, application and operating systems (Client and Server) performance analysis. The job requires handling support desk call escalations. This involves working with Level I and II Helpdesk and Field services in escalation, delegation. Continued work results in the following:
  • Mentoring and guiding Level I and II staff teams in best practices, improved approaches, improving standard procedures, turn around times, client satisfaction, and internal as well as client facing documentation, knowledgebase and how-to guides.
  • Identifying chronic client issues, network and application performance issues and providing plans and proposed resolutions to management, which often need to involve more than one possible scenario (good, better and best). These plans need definitive measurable results in improved performance, reduced helpdesk calls, and increased client satisfaction.
This job involves project management in a shared role with President. In some cases co-managed projects, some cases completely individually managed. This involves delegating to all appropriate resources, managing deliverables, outcomes, timelines and resource assignments.
As always APM requires ongoing documentation of procedures, tickets and configurations.

The Sr. Systems Engineer will also be responsible for the following duties within the internal and client infrastructures, to include meeting and exceeding the expectations of the clients:
• Responsible for all functions relating to the planning, design, installation, configuration and operation of technology infrastructure
• Work directly with vendor contacts to resolve technical problems affecting the delivery of applications and services and/or uptime related to software/application solutions, Servers, SAN technology, storage, and peripheral equipment
• Configure, install, monitor and implement servers, storage and networking.
• Identify & troubleshoot server configuration and/or performance irregularities. Develop procedures to respond to these irregularities in a timely manner
• Ensure entire infrastructure is properly monitored and alerts regarding infrastructure interruptions and outages are addressed in a timely and thorough manner
• Develop and test scripts to automate routine tasks. Delegate to Level I and II the ongoing monitoring once processes are implemented.
• Provide oversight and escalation support for helpdesk. Oversee the execution and completion of assigned tasks
• Development of service level metrics for delivery, problem escalation/resolution processes and performance monitoring
• Provides technical direction and recommendations for Infrastructure hardware/software and related technologies
• Assists with creation/maintenance of customer service SLAs
• Maintain and participate in on-call support schedule, primarily involving only mission-critical infrastructure outside normal business hours.
• Works with Desktop Support and Networking staff to determine and resolve high level problems
• Document and improve existing processes
• Escalation / on-call responsibilities are required as part of this position
Other skills and requirements include:
• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, or related experience
• Proven track record identifying and championing appropriate new technologies
• Innovative and thinks out of the box
• Strong commitment to high-quality customer service and strong work ethic
• 2-4 years of IT managerial or supervisory experience preferred
• Exceptionally self-motivated and directed with ability to set and manage priorities judiciously
• Proven leadership ability to motivate and distribute tasks to team members in a team-oriented environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including interpersonal / customer service skills
• Superior analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail
• Ability to perform effectively in a multi-tasking environment while maintaining a high level of service
• High level of knowledge of current Windows Server technology, Active Directory
• Strong knowledge and experience in server, network and application performance monitoring and performance problem resolution planning and execution.
• Strong knowledge of DHCP/DNS/WINS/FTP
• Strong knowledge of backup tools, image builds, and server recovery
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP
• Strong performance tuning and capacity planning experience
• Experience with Citrix Xenapp implementation and management
• Experience with Vmware implementation and management
• Experience with Exchange Server 2007/2010, Windows Active Directory, including network design, implementation, domain migration, Exchange Server migrations.
• The ability to lift and handle packages/hardware with the approximate weight of 50 pounds or more
• Preferred / Plus - RMM Platform experience, Unix/Linux, SaaS and IaaS technologies, Apple/Mac technologies
